Hill District Paintings
Life is driven by memories. These paintings are memories of the artist growing up in the Hill District of Pittsburgh, PA as it existed in the 1930's - 1940's, during the Great Depression and the World War II. The Hill District was a very mixed neighborhood, crowded and loud - with Jews, Italians, Irish, Hungarians, Gypsies, Afro-Americans and other ethnic groups - all struggling to make a living.
